Our history

Heavers was founded in 1960 by master builder George Heaver, father of the current MD Malcolm.
The company quickly established an excellent reputation for building properties of quality and George was joined by Malcolm in 1968 on a carpentry and joinery apprenticeship.

George recognised that for properties to stand out, they needed a little something extra and he felt that sliding patio doors and internal secondary glazing would make all the difference. This manufacturing and installation venture proved so popular that it eventually took over from the conventional building business altogether. However, the company's roots in the building industry gave them a substantial edge over their rivals as they had the knowledge and experience to tackle any project with professionalism.

The present day company still holds firm to these values, with no room for complacency. Malcolm explains, “We manufacture our own products to the highest quality and we don't employ sub-contractors as we want our entire team to share the same commitments. All new installers, even those with previous experience, work with a senior team member for at least a year in order for them to get used to our good working practices. We pride ourselves on our workmanship.”

The firm is now a Limited Company the late George Heaver retired in 1993, leaving the day-to-day running of the business to Malcolm. Malcolm's eldest son Ross joined the business in 1998 and takes care of surveying and installation. He spent several years in the factory and three years installing, to ensure he knows the business thoroughly. More recently, he has been followed by younger brother Luke who joined straight from school in 2001 as an apprentice installer and has continued the family tradition of thoroughness and competence. Luke has almost nine years of installing experience, he has built up a wealth of knowledge to offer new and existing customers.

The name of Heavers is well known throughout Dorset, Devon and Somerset. The improved road infrastructure has made Heavers more accessible and many existing customers who have moved house have immediately contacted Heavers to improve their new property.

Ross has been Service Engineer for over 4 years and also carries out final survey of installations, prior to manufacture. As any family business we all have many roles. Our latest venture "Photo Voltaic Panels" has been intergtated into our portfolio of services and Ross is helping to advise and sell PV, while carrying out final survey and project managing the installations.

With this in mind, the company is prepared for the future. Malcolm says: "We will soon be a company moving into the fourth generation, showing our customers that we mean business and intend to be around for a long time to come."

Brett Frampton focuses on the PVc-u side of the business while Alan Riglar deals with the conservatory and building side of the business. Both Alan & brett offer first-rate professional advice to guide and advise homeowners. Malcolm says, “Heavers is  in great demand when it comes to conservatories, due to our experience in the professional building industry. We can deal capably with any conservatory project however unusual, as we design conservatories unique to each client. We do not have a 'one-size-fits-all' policy.”
